JARED "RYAN" SHAW @coffeandchronic (on instagram)
Jared Ryan Shaw, The Acrylic Artist, is an actor/musician turned street artist who, after surviving open-heart surgery, turned to art fully express his emotions. A painter, he has created a unique style. Foregoing the traditional use of a paintbrush, Shaw squeezes acrylic paint directly onto the canvas in a technique he has named "soul flow," creating ridges and curvatures on the formerly flat surfaces. During a period of self-reflection and experimentation, he describes the birth and evolution of his artist person as "an artist coming out of [him], but [not] understanding what the artist was." Since then, Shaw's artwork has been influenced by his life, his experiences, his energy, and his love for music, mainly hip-hop. In November of 2014, Shaw showcased his work in his first solo show. This proved to be a launching pad for his career. The recognition he gained during that time resulted in an invitation to exhibit his work at Art Basel in December of the same year. In the time since, he has gained the attention of fellow artists, such as Mr. Brainwash and Domingo Zapata, as well as actor Liam Hemsworth. Though his artwork and technique continues to grow with the possibility of exploration into different mediums and platforms. Shaw says that for now "Acrylic feels right."
